About Queen Anne
View Homes for Sale in Queen Anne
Just north of Belltown, on the highest hill in the city, sits the Queen Anne neighborhood, one of the oldest
neighborhoods in the city. It was developed in the early 1900s and is renowned for its extraordinary architecture that includes many fine examples of the Queen Anne, Craftsman, Bungalow, Foursquare and Colonial styles. Queen Anne has many sub-neighborhoods: Uptown, South Slope, and ‘top of the hill’ are a few of the popular ones.
In the past 30 years, Queen Anne has become one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the city, offering many choices in lifestyles. The top of the hill features mostly single family homes and its shopping district has a small town atmosphere; the bottom of the hill is more densely populated with condos and apartments and is right in the center of the action.
Many people know Queen Anne as the home of Kerry Park, overlooking the famous Space Needle, Elliott Bay, and Puget Sound beyond. It’s located on the south slope of the hill, which is known for having one of the most spectacular views in the city. You will find a wide variety of housing on the south slope, from turn-of-the-century mansions of former lumber barons to million dollar condos and town homes, all taking advantage of the expansive sound and downtown skyline views.
Uptown, which is actually located at the bottom of the Queen Anne hill, is full of fresh eateries and watering holes. Uptown flanks The Seattle Center (site of the former World’s Fair) and is home to the Spa
ce Needle, neighborhood festivals (The Bite of Seattle, Bumbershoot, Folklife Festival being just a few), and is also known as being a
major arts center. The new McCaw Hall is a state-of-the-art opera house and the Intiman and Seattle Repertory Theaters are both Tony award-winning arts centers.
There are some great food boutiques in the Queen Anne Neighborhood. Chocolopolis is one of my favorites.
